Extraction: Press Water
K-Patents Process Refractometer is used in the press water line, where it measures sugar concentration. Typical for this application is that the signal is stable at low concentration for long periods. Higher concentration signal is a sign of occasional disturbances in pulp press operation. Evaporation: Thin juice to evaporator, Evaporation control, Thick juice in evaporator outlet
The concentration of thin juice to evaporation can be kept constant by controlling the mixing of thick juice with the K-Patents Process Refractometer, thus allowing the capacity of the evaporators to be maximized. Using K-Patents in the intermediate stage the profitability can be increased in the form of minimized steam consumption.

Vacuum Pan / Crystallizer: Standard liquor to vacuum pan
To achieve a uniform and repeatable crystallization the concentration of standard liquor should be kept constant. K-Patents Process Refractometer is used in this purpose to automatically control the addition of this juice to the high melter. The typical measurement range is between 65 to 80 Brix.

K-Patents Process Refractometer is used to determine the seeding point and to control the mother liquor concentration after the seeding. The seeding point measurement and the monitoring of supersaturation are critical for final crystal quality. By measuring the mother liquor concentration and temperature of the sugar solution the value of supersaturation can be calculated.

Decolorization: Sweetening on-off control
In the decolorization process the resins require periodic regeneration. Prior to regeneration is allowed to take place columns should be rinsed with water to remove the sugar. K-Patents Process Refractometer is used to monitor the interface between product and rinse water coming out from the columns just before the regeneration procedure.
