Evaporation: Thin Liquor Mixing, Evaporation Control, Soap Separation
The concentration of feed liquor from washers to evaporation can be kept constant by controlling the mixing liquor with the K-Patents Process Refractometer, thus allowing the capacity of the evaporators to be maximized. Using K-Patents in the intermediate stage the profitability can be increased in the form of minimized steam consumption.

Recovery Boiler: Safe Firing of Black Liquor to the Burner
Feeding of low concentrations of black liquor solids to a kraft chemical recovery boiler burner can cause a steam explosion. K-Patents Digital Divert Control System is required for safe operation and to prevent dangerously low black liquor concentrations to reach the boiler.

Causticizing: Green Liquor TTA
Better control of the green liquor in the causticizing process leads to increased capacity of the kraft cooking process. Green liquor total titratable alkali (TTA) content can be controlled by addition of weak wash liquor dilution. TTA has a good correlation with Refractive Index, which provides an accurate measurement for the green liquor. The K-Patents Process Refractometer design together with the high pressure prism wash is ideal for the heavy scaling conditions of the green liquor process.

Digesting: Weak Liquor
K-Patents Process Refractometer is used to measure concentration before and after digester to control the cooking liquor for optimal digestion of the pulp. Measurement range is typically 0-15% b.w.

Washing: Weak Red Liquor
K-Patents Process Refractometer is used to measure weak red concentration before it enters the storage tank. The typical measurement range is 13-15% b.w.

Evaporation
K-Patents Process Refractometer is used to measure black liquor concentrations before (10-20 % b.w.) and after the evaporators (50-70% b.w.). The measurement signal is used to keep feed as even and constant as possible to maximize the evaporators capacity.

Starch Cooking Control: Cooking Control, Feed to the Machine Tank
The final concentration and quality of the cooked starch can be verified by using the K-Patents Process Refractometer PR-01-S in the cooking control. Accurate measurement of concentration guarantees efficient and even production of different paper grades. Typical measurement range is 0-15%.

Size Press Control: Top Control, Bottom Control
At the size press the paper absorbs more water than the sizing material. For this reason it is very important to measure sizing liquid concentration in the size press circulation system. Diluted water must be added into the circulation. Using K-Patents Process Refractometer PR-01-S in the size press the concentration of the sizing chemicals or starch added to the paper can be optimized for different paper grades and this way the best quality for each grade can be achieved. Typical measurement range is 0-15%. Usually the bottom layer concentration is lower than the top layer concentration.
