K-Patents new SAFE-DRIVE™ Process Refractometer PR-23-SD is a complete heavy-duty system for measuring black liquor dry solids % by weight in kraft chemical pulp mills.
The measurement of black liquor % d.s. has been an important element in the process optimization at the pulp mills for more than a century. However, now KPatents introduces SAFE-DRIVE™ isolation valve and retractor, which allow for safe and easy insertion and removal of the refractometer sensor under full process pressure without having to shut down the process (Patent pending).
A typical application for K-Patents PR-23-SD is the concentration measurement of feed liquor from pulp washers to evaporation. This can be kept constant by controlling the mixing liquor with the K-Patents PR-23-SD, thus allowing the capacity of the evaporators to be maximized. Using K-Patents in the intermediate stage the profitablity can be increased in the form of minimized steam consumption.
The K-Patents SAFE-DRIVE™ Process Refractometer PR-23-SD determines the Refractive Index (R.I.) of the black liquor by measuring the critical angle of refraction, which changes with the concentration. Due to the digital measurement principle the accuracy is not influenced by air bubbles, particles or colour of the process liquid.
The measurement accuracy is +/- 0.1 Conc-% by weight and the measurement is automatically temperature compensated. The measurement range covers the whole 0-100% and the operating process temperature ranges from -20°C to 180°C (-4 to 356°F). Low and high concentration alarms can be configured. Furthermore, the digital measuring system does not require any recalibration or frequent maintenance.
