New Intrinsically Safe PR-23 Systems

K-Patents introduces ATEX and IECEx approved Intrinsically Safe Process Refractometer PR-23-IA/IE systems that can be used in hazardous locations in Zone 0 and Zone 1 areas, where a possibility of fire or explosion exists. These systems offer many opportunities to install K-Patents Refractometers in the chemical, petroleum refining, and pharmaceutical processes. The intrinsic safety is the safest approach to explosion protection and compared with most other methods, it is inexpensive and easy to implement and maintain. It is also easily adaptable to both older processes and modern control systems.

The K-Patents Intrinsically Safe Process Refractometer consists of a modified, intrinsically safe refractometer sensor, an indicating transmitter STR with single sensor connectivity, and an intrinsically safe isolator, and cabling between the refractometer sensor, isolator and the transmitter.

The intrinsic safety approvals for Zone 0 and Zone 1 are:

Both certified intrinsically safe systems (-IA and -IE) conform to the following technical standards:

  • IEC60079-0:2004 (EN60079-0:2006)
  • IEC60079-11:2006 (EN60079-11:2007)

These standards are in the process to become worldwide Ex standards. The ATEX model (-IA) conforms to the ATEX 100a (EU directive 94/9/EC).

The next K-Patents Intrinsic Safety approval will be for the PR-23-IF (Factory Mutual) system. The FM approval is estimated to be available in June 2009.
