Responsibility for the environment lies at the core of K-Patents’ business. The company designs and manufactures high-quality products with long life cycles. In particular, the environmental responsibility applies to product packaging, materials used in the products and production as well as samples sent by customers to the company. Below you will find more information on these areas.
Packaging materials used by our company are environmentally safe. Polyurethane packaging foam is CFC and HCFC free, which helps to save the ozone layer. To minimize the environmental impact the foam is compressible and biostable. Moreover, the packaging cardboard can be recycled.
In the European Union the packaging materials and packaging waste recovery are regulated by the Packaging & Packaging Waste Directives 94/62/EC and 2004/12/EC (Producer’s Responsibility). In Finland K-Patents exercises the producer’s responsibility via the membership of Finnish Packaging Recycling RINKI Ltd (until 28 May 2015 known as PYR Ltd).
The K-Patents’ production workflow covers steps from final assembly and calibration to testing of the products. The production maintains documented processes for material processing. The company strives to use materials that are
• safe for the health of the employees
• friendly for the environment.
All waste, including supportive materials (e.g. glues, calibration liquids), used in the production, is sorted and disposed of following national regulations and suppliers’ instructions.
K-Patents products meet the requirements defined by RoHS legislation, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (2002/95/EC) set by the European Union (EU). The calibration liquids used by the company are in compliance with the REACH regulations of the EU.
K-Patents Oy receives samples from customers on a regular basis. The procedures for the reception, identifying, processing, testing and disposing of the samples are documented. All samples that may present a risk for the environment are treated as toxic waste, and disposed of separately. Instructions given by the provider of the sample are used as a guideline for the disposal.
In the European Union producers are required to provide, at the end of the products’ life cycle, environmentally responsible disposal of products they place on the market. The end of life management is regulated by the EU WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive. As a member of SELT ry K-Patents takes care of the obligations of the WEEE legislation in Finland.
K-Patents is dedicated to manufacturing high quality products that take the environment into consideration. K-Patents has an ISO 9001 certified quality system, which sets the framework for all its functions, and works as a foundation for environmental issues.
